Apartment History

In 1960, Jeff Chellum emigrated from Mauritius to London, after 2 years he made arrangements for his wife Jenny Chellum to join him in London. Jeff was employed by Royal Mail and remained with them for 32 years until he was offered early retirement with lump sump. Jenny Chellum then returned to Mauritius to supervise the planning and construction of Jenny’s Apartments.

The first phase was to build accommodation where Jenny would stay whilst the apartments were being constructed, so a 3 bedroom flat was built first.

In this picture the table is located where the pool is now and the car is located where the patio area is now. The back of the flat was still under construction.

This was the first drive laid for vehicle access. At this stage the grass had just been planted.

The next phase was the building of the apartments in 1991, a semi circle bay window was added and the garage was extended to allow a larger apartment area on first floor.

The next  phase was the swimming pool which required 15 lorry loads of volcano rock to be removed. The workmen size will give you a rough guide as to size of the pool and the depths.

Finally the picture below shows the apartment construction complete with patio laid and the first coat of paint.

In 1992, on completion of the apartments Jeff joined Jenny in Mauritius to resettle and start up a family run apartment hire in Mauritius known as  `JENNYS APARTMENTS`. They have been in business now for over 10 years, and their son `Simon` who resides in Ilford Essex UK, handles all UK enquiries so you have a direct contact in the UK.
