AIRPORT

The only International airport on the island is called the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport and is located in Plaisance, 3kms from  Mahebourg, 48 kms from Port Louis. (See location plans, and maps.)

GENERAL INFORMATION

You can change money in the airport immediately on arrival . There are several banks in the hall directly after the luggage hall.

On departure an airport tax of 300 rupees per person (about £7.50) This is payable in rupees at the airport. So remember to have this saved.  ( NOW INCLUDED IN YOUR FLIGHT TICKET - NOT REQUIRED AT AIRPORT AS FROM 02/09/2000 , BUT CHECK WITH YOUR TICKET SUPPLIER)

CUSTOMS

Visas are not required for people with EEC or American passports.

Passport validity:
Passports must be valid for 6 months from date of arrival

2) Holders of passports issued by:

Visa notes:
1) All visitors must hold valid tickets and documents for their onward or return journey and adequate funds for their intended length of stay
2) Visas are obtainable on arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport for a stay up to 14 days to nationals of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Comoros, Czech Rep, Estonia, Fiji, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lithuania, Madagascar, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine & Uzbekistan
3) Visas are obtainable on arrival for a stay of 3 months to nationals of Argentina, provided all immigration criteria are met

Restrictions:
Passports issued by the governments of Bophuthatswana, Ciskei, Taiwan, Transkei, Venda and that part of Cyprus not controlled by the government of Cyprus are not recognised. Holders of such documents should apply for an entry permit prior to departure

Your will full receipt will have details of the accommodation where you will be staying. YOU MUST HAVE THIS TO HAND WHEN YOU GO THROUGH PASSPORT CONTROL AS YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE A DISEMBARKATION FORM AND YOUR ACCOMMODATION DETAILS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW. (Sometimes the disembarkation form is handed out by airline staff before the plane lands)

THOSE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED MAY BE CARRIED IN THE CHECKED IN BAGGAGE WHICH IS CARRIED IN THE AIRPLANE CARGO HOLD. 

Going through customs is NOT A TIME FOR HUMOUR. So forget jokes about bombs in your luggage when you go through the security controls. At very least, you'll get held up and at the worst you could get arrested.
