Health & Safety
At Jenny's Apartments we are always improving to make your accommodation the closest to the Health, Safety and hygiene standards that you would expect at home. We are working to raise safety standards and will of course do our best to ensure that your holiday is safe and trouble free, but we do ask that you take extra care with children while you are at the apartments.
CHILDREN SAFETY
We all know that children are naturally curious, and even more so whilst on holiday, balconies, playgrounds and swimming pools are just some of the areas where accidents could occur. Please remember to supervise your children at all times.
If you rent another apartment or stay at a hotel, and you request a cot, ensure that that the vertical bars are not more than 10cms apart, and that the mattress fits snugly into the base. If the side bar is adjustable make sure that it is high enough to prevent an infant from climbing out. Cots should be sturdy and free from sharp edges.
ROAD SAFETY.
In Mauritius the vehicles are Right hand drive, and you would drive on the drive on the left , that same as in the UK. However the speed signs are in kilometers, so if you see 80 in a red circle, it does NOT mean 80mph. Drivers are also not obliged to stop at pedestrian crossings, so putting your foot on a zebra crossing may not always make vehicles stop. Please be aware of local driving regulations and NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE, it is an offence to drink and drive in Mauritius and penalties include prison term.
Variable road conditions and drivers attitudes towards mopeds make riding them a dangerous option in Mauritius, particularly for those unused to riding them at home. We don not recommend moped hire, even for experienced riders.
FIRE SAFETY ![]()
Even if you do not book an apartment at Jenny's Apartments, you should bear in mind that in some resorts, local regulations designed to preserve the historic nature or aesthetic beauty of the property, may prevent the hotelier from providing the level of safety that you are accustomed to in the UK.
When you first arrive at the apartments you should first make yourself familiar with all the exits , such at the patio doors and the front doors. There is a smoke alarm sited in all of the apartments ,and the kitchen area has a fire blanket as well as an industrial fire extinguisher.
BALCONY & GLASS SAFETY
Please make sure that young children are not left unsupervised on balconies. Keep balcony furniture away from the railings so that children are not encouraged to climb up, and adults should remember NEVER to sit on , or LEAN over the balcony rail. Though all the pictures shows a wooden barrier, this has now been removed for your safety and replaced with aluminum barriers with toughened smoked glass.
GAS SAFETY
Your accommodation will have a cooker in the kitchen, this cooker works on a gas bottle sited in the works unit under the cooker. When not in use always double check that the gas has been turned off properly, as you would do at home. It is our policy NOT to use an internal, instantaneous gas supply. If there was a leak at the apartment, this would only be enough gas that would fill a gas bottle. If you run out of gas , please advise the owners who will renew the bottle for you. There are NO additional charges for gas consumption.
FOOD & DRINK
The apartments are self catering, but there will times when you will want to try the local cuisine at restaurants. Please remember that standards of hygiene do vary from country to country. The owners will know a selection of local restaurants who promote good hygiene practices and will advise you on these restaurants when requested. If you do venture out to your own choice of restaurant please take the utmost care, as heat and humidity abroad combined with alcohol and new foods, can cause minor stomach upsets. If in doubt, don't eat it, and try not to over indulge.
SWIMMING POOL SAFETY
Children must be supervised constantly in and around the swimming pool area. The sides of the pool has been fitted with anti slip border tiles. The pool is private and is for the sole use of clients of Jenny's Apartments. There is NO life guard. Take few minutes at the start of your holiday to familiarize yourself with the pool. Check the depth of the swimming pool, the shallow end is a foot high and this is where the steps are located. The deep end is 12 feet high and is located in front of the waterfall. Never let children run around the swimming pool area. If there is an evening BBQ or gathering on the patio, please be extra vigilant with children.
BEACH SAFETY
There are 2 beaches near to the apartments , TROU-AUX-BICHES BEACH & MONT CHOISEY. Trou-aux-biches has life guards , who can sometime patrol up to Mont choisey. Children must be supervised at all times. be aware of local conditions , tides, winds and currents that can make even the safest beaches hazardous . (This is for ALL beaches ) . Show your children where the life guard office is on trou-aux-biches beach, so that you all have a meeting point should children get lost. Ensure that you aware of any zoned areas that are marked out for water sports.
SUN SAFETY
To avoid severe sunburn, adequate sun care products with UVA-Filters agents should be used. It is advisable to wear a hat and sunglasses when in the sun during the entire day, especially in the summer months when the suns rays are scorching hot. (see Climate)
